Second season announced for SoHo channel’s hit drama from FremantleMedia Australia
Foxtel today announced the commissioning of a second season of the hit Australian drama Wentworth from FremantleMedia Australia. The first season is midway through its world premiere run on Foxtel's SoHo channel and has already notched up sales to New Zealand's TVNZ and the UK's Channel Five.
Foxtel Executive Director of Television Brian Walsh said "Wentworth's bold storytelling has attracted a record-breaking response from our Foxtel customers. “This drama, tailor-made for Australian subscription television, is capturing local and international attention sparked by its Prisoner heritage but fuelled by Wentworth’s own high production standards and the terrific performance of the ensemble cast.”
FremantleMedia Australia Director of Drama Jo Porter said "We have assembled an extraordinary team of writers who can't wait to get started on series two. We have so many more stories to tell.” Production will be underway late this year at the purpose-built prison set in Melbourne and season two will launch in 2014.
New episodes of Wentworth S1 premiere Wednesdays at 8.30pm EST, only on Foxtel’s SoHo channel. Episode six airs tonight (June 5) and the tenth episode, first season final, airs July 3.
